I need to get a nice tool chest for my garage. But, I don't want to have a full rolling cabinet. I just want the top/mid chest. Infact, I want two. They will sit on my wall to wall workbench and help me organize my tools, and help me stay organized. So I stopped by Sears for unrelated items, and I saw they have a great tool chest sale. I spent probably 35 to 45 minutes touching/feeling/opening/closeing every chest I could find. Every chest that was affordable, and functional ($70 to $130) were all 12" deep tool chests. Here is the Question; For those with experience in this area, is a 12" deep tool chest *functional*. Specifically, do you find that tools don't fit 'well', or require manipulation to fit (long screwdrivers/extensions/etc)
(disclaimer, I understand fully, that you get what you pay for, but considering the drawer depth, cost is not currently a factor. I need to determine if the drawer depth SHOULD be a consideration).
Here are my choices; I will buy two, this one; ($71.00) and one just like it, but with 5 full width drawers and an opening top. (also $71.oo) (of course, they put 1" wrenches in the top drawer making the box look tiny, but in reality, it's a normal size, as can be seen by the screwdrivers in the drawer)
this is the box i REALLY want. I know it will be 100% functional, and do everything I ask of it. It has the right size compartments, and a very nice depth (I think 16 or 18")... This one is is $467.oo.
